Tree Pruning in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

Light, careful pruning for heritage trees, orchards and vineyard windbreaks.

Tree Pruning for Niagara-on-the-Lake Properties

Few places in Ontario have trees like Niagara-on-the-Lake's. The Old Town's streets are lined with oaks, maples, black walnuts and sycamores that have stood for well over a century, and the farms and vineyards around Virgil, St. Davids and Queenston have windbreaks, woodlots and orchards of their own. Trees like these deserve careful work: light, well-placed cuts and a crew that knows when to leave a tree alone. That's how Tree Service Niagara prunes them. We assess every tree first, check whether it's yours or the Town's, and give you a written quote for the work.

Trees in Niagara-on-the-Lake

Big, old trees bring big, old problems: heavy limbs reaching over roofs and the street, internal decay, and wounds from storms decades ago. Most can be kept safe for years with deadwood removal, end-weight reduction and, sometimes, an arborist's assessment of the risk. Oaks need extra care. Oak wilt has been found in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and federal guidance says to keep saws off oaks for most of the year, April through November, so we schedule oak work in winter.

Outside the Old Town, it's fruit and grape country. Orchard trees in backyards and on hobby farms do best with a dormant prune each winter, and windbreak rows along the Niagara River Parkway and the concession roads need deadwood cleared before it falls into the vines. Arborist assessments.

The Local Rule

Residents may not prune, treat or remove trees on Town property, so street trees in the Old Town are the Town's to look after. Trees on private land are covered by the Region's Woodland Conservation By-law when they're part of a woodland, and Niagara-on-the-Lake has handed small-woodland protection to the Region. Pruning for maintenance isn't affected.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Tree Questions

The tree in front of my house is on the Town's side. Can you prune it?

No. Town trees can only be pruned or removed by the Town. Call the Town about those, and we'll look after everything on your property.

My property is in the heritage district. Are there extra tree rules?

Heritage district rules are mainly about buildings, but some individual trees may be designated as heritage or significant trees. If you're planning a removal, we'll check with the Town first.
